Over 3,000 motorists in Co. Mayo do not their cars insured

An estimated 3,100 drivers in Mayo are going without car insurance and claims made against uninsured drivers of such vehicles are costing the general public an additional €30 on their annual car insurance quotes. Claims are paid out by the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland (MIBI), a non-profit-making organisation registered in Ireland, which is fully funded by the insurance premiums paid by compliant motor insurers.

These claims are costing an individual driver approximately €30 a year.  MIBI was established by agreement between the Government and companies underwriting motor insurance in Ireland to compensate innocent victims of accidents caused by uninsured and unidentified vehicles.
