The Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland (MIBI) is in the process of beginning an intensified programme to recoup financial losses from uninsured drivers who cause accidents. This will involve solicitors of the MIBI sending written correspondence to the uninsured driver soon after the accident to outline the amount of compensation and associated costs that the uninsured driver would be liable for.

This programme should help drive home the consequences of the uninsured driver and give the person the opportunity to accept responsibility for their actions whilst making a fair settlement to the MIBI to avoid further legal action. The MIBI also ask for solicitors who represent uninsured drivers should take into account that it is compliant motorists who picks up the tab for claims on uninsured drivers.
