A survey carried out by national bank, Allied Irish Bank, found that an overwhelming majority of Irish drivers choose Fully Comprehensive (FC) cover when taking out a Car Insurance policy
AIB’s survey which was conducted online last month revealed that 83% of the 420 respondents said they have comprehensive car insurance. Out of the remaining participants, just 13% opted for Third Party, Fire and Theft (TPFT) and only 1 in 20 people went for the most basic Third Party Only (TPO) cover.
The research also highlighted that only a third of those who took part in AIB’s survey ever made a claim and that around 2 in 5 availed of a Direct Debit scheme. Benefits were another focal point of the survey with respondents stressing the importance of having features such as windscreen cover and no claims bonus protection. Indeed, protecting a no-claims bonus was the most important insurance benefit for over half of all respondents.
The survey shows that most people have value in their minds when shopping around for car insurance as opposed to trying to get the cheapest premium possible.
