Property owners living in rural areas are paying 12% more for their House Insurance policies than those living in greater Dublin

A survey conducted by AA Ireland found that home owners in rural areas of Ireland pay around 12% more than their urban counterparts in Dublin. Dubliners pay on average €455 for House & Contents Insurance compared with €511 for those outside the capital – a difference of €56. The higher cost in rural areas is attributed to the fact that claims made by house owners in rural areas are generally more expensive than their urban counterparts.

However, The Insurance Federation question the findings that premiums costs were rising, and have pointed to recent figures from the Central Statistics Office showing a drop in House Insurance premiums in the past year. The Insurance Federation also stress that there are approximately twelve insurers in the House Insurance market which is highly competitive and encourage people to shop around for the best deal possible.
